Exploring the USA: Unit 1 Project
Karissa was allowed to research a place in England, because it is a very important place we will study in Unit 1. She is still working on her poster about Greenwich, where the Prime Meridian is located. Look at how she's included pictures, captions, and facts about the place she's chosen. For those of you still working on your posters, try and add some more details like Karissa has done here!

Above is the link for Michelah's power point presentation about Fort Benning, and the area around the base, Columbus Georgia. She did a great job by including cool and interesting facts, as well as pictures, into her presentation.
Michelah: See if you can find some information about the geography down at Fort Benning or in Columbus and add a few more slides! Things like the latitude and longitude, the landscape, and the weather or climate! I bet you'll find some pretty interesting things if you look! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbus,_Georgia#Geography |

Los Angeles was first found in 1781 on September 4th. The Governor of the Spanish was the one that found it. His name was Felipe de Neve and he died years later in his life. Many generations later Los Angeles also known as L.A. got a nickname called the City of Angels. Los Angeles has Hollywood as part of its city. Many ages ago it was a part of Mexico in the year 1821. This was during the Mexican War of Independence. It changed after the Mexican War ended and years later it moved over to America. In 1848 Los Angeles and the rest of California was purchased as part of Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. On Google Earth I found huge buildings and lots of cars in Los Angeles. I chose Los Angeles for a few reasons. The first reason is that it's supposed to be really nice. Second reason is that most of my favorite movies of all time were filmed there. In the 18th Century approximately 500 native people moved to Los Angeles. Years later it got plagued for the violence that occurred and also for the ethnic and class conflict. In the 1980s a Subway Train was built somewhere in Los Angeles. 2,100 African Americans came to Los Angeles in 1900 started to live there for the rest of their lives. LAPD was first invented in 1950's first it was a model than became real. I chose Los Angeles for a few reasons.
